Save time of having to make materials to practice functional literacy and math with this set of materials.  In life skills classes our students need to learn how to read the print of shopping flyers and coupons as well as practice determining the amount of money needed for a purchase.  This set of shoe store flyers, worksheets and task cards provide practice in check-writing, reading, and math of shopping.

What's Included

2 Ad Flyers for shoe stores differentiated by price. 

  • 1 flyer with prices with no change and 1 with prices with change.

28 Task Cards: can be used with either of the differentiated flyers from the store

  • 10 task cards ask students to write in the price of a single item from a flyer with a picture cue. 10 are identical to the first set but do not include picture cues.
  • 8 task cards require the student to write a check to make a single-item purchase.
  • An answer key for the task cards is included for finding prices, but not for check writing.

2 Worksheets for Reading:

  • 1 with a word bank and 1 without.
  • Each of these can be used with any of the store versions.
  • An answer key is provided.

5 Worksheets for Check Writing requiring students to:

  • total the amount needed to purchase 2 to 3 items from the flyer
  • write a check for the purchase amount and determine a new balance in the checkbook register.
  • Each worksheet can be used with either of the 2 flyers.
  • An answer key is provided but I have not included the check writing in the answer key, although the required information (e.g., total amount, store name) is included.

5 Worksheets for Multi-Item Purchases Using Cash:

  • Require students to total the amount needed to purchase 2 to 3 items from the flyers.
  • circle the bills that could be used for the purchase and
  • determine the amount of change that would be received based on giving a clerk a set amount to buy the items.
  • An answer key is included.

1 Worksheet for Debit Cards

  • Students answer 10 questions about what they can purchase from the store with a specific debit card balance.
  • Each worksheet can be used with either of the flyers.
  • An answer key is included.
