Save time of having to make materials to practice functional literacy and math with this set of materials. In life skills classes our students need to learn how to read the print of shopping flyers and coupons as well as practice determining the amount of money needed for a purchase. This set of toy store flyers, worksheets and task cards provide practice in check-writing, reading, and math of shopping.

What's Included

3 differentiated flyers that are identical but have different prices.

1 flyer with prices with no change,
1 with prices with change in 25 cent increments and
1 with prices with more complex change.

24 Task Cards that can be used with any of the differentiated flyers from the store.

8 task cards ask students to write in the price of a single item from a flyer with a picture cue.
8 are identical to the first set but do not include picture cues.
8 task cards require the student to write a check to make a single-item purchase.
An answer key for the task cards is included for finding prices, but not for check writing.

2 Worksheets for reading requiring students to answer basic questions about the store flyer.

1 with a word bank
1 without a word bank
Each of these can be used with any of the store versions.
An answer key is provided.

5 Worksheets for Check Writing

Require students to total the amount needed to purchase 2 to 3 items from the flyer.
The student must then write a check for the purchase amount and determine a new balance in the checkbook register.
Each worksheet can be used with any of the 3 flyers.
An answer key is provided but I have not included the check writing in the answer key, although the required information (e.g., total amount, store name) is included.

5 Worksheets for Multi-Item Purchases Using Cash

The students total the amount needed to purchase 2 to 3 items from the corresponding flyer. The student then must circle the bills that could be used for the purchase and determine the amount of change that would be received based on giving a clerk a set amount to buy the items.
An answer key is included.

1 Worksheet for Debit Cards

Students answer 10 questions given a debit card balance and asked if they can purchase a specific item from that store.
Each worksheet can be used with any of the differentiated flyers.
An answer key is included.
