You have to admit, students like Halloween...so hooking them with reading about it using interactive books can be a great way to keep them focused on what you are teaching. And this set has 3 books that are appropriate for early childhood and special education students addressing functional skills.
3 INTERACTIVE BOOKS
This is an illustrated book that focuses on common activities associated with Halloween. The book ends with a yes/no question about whether the student likes to be scared.
Trick or Treat
This is a clip art book with matching illustrations and words, including 3 verbs.. It focuses on the steps of trick or treating: costumes, houses, knock (on the door), say (trick or treat), candy, thank you, answer the door. It also ends in a yes/no question about whether the student likes to go trick or treating.
Dressing up for Halloween
This book talks about dressing up in a costume. Verbs include buy (a costume), and sew (a costume). The book ends with the students pointing to the costume they would like to wear. There is a question mark in case what they want to dress as is not in the 7 options provided. You could also supplement the pictures with your own choice board.
(Check out the preview for photos and lists of vocabulary)
Includes visuals to choose the books for choice boards from my morning meeting starter kits.

- The books have the option to find the matching or corresponding picture or the word to complete the sentence.
- The picture cards can be stored on an extension page that have matching pictures. There are 2 options—one has matching pictures and the other is a blank page with no pictures so you can rearrange them.
- You could also switch out so that the student is matching clip art to photos or vice versa by switching which matching pictures are with the book.
